Oscar Wish List

2011 was an abysmal year for movies. I don’t know if I’m saying that because I didn’t see most of the Best Picture nominees or if I didn’t want to see most movies that came out.

Of what I did see, here’s what I would like to win + guesses on the others:

Best Picture:
Moneyball (I also saw Midnight in Paris and The Descendants. Of those 3, I liked Moneyball the best. It won’t win)

Best Director:
Michael Hazanavicius for The Artist (why the hell not)

Best Actor:
Gary Oldman for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (I say this because even though I haven’t seen it I love Gary and I thought Brad Pitt and George Clooney weren’t amazing. Good, but not mind-blowing)

Best Actress:
Rooney Mara for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (I really loved the character of Lisabeth Salander and the movie was even better than the book. She won’t win)

Best Supporting Actor:
Nick Nolte for Warriors (A movie about MMA. Why not? He won’t win)

Best Supporting Actress:
Melissa McCarthy for Bridesmaids (I wasn’t thrilled with her like everyone else was, but she was the only one in this category I actually saw. Go for it. I don’t care)

Best Original Screenplay:
Bridesmaids (Midnight in Paris was an incredibly hokey premise that I actually didn’t care for. I also wasn’t ok with it being a blatant advertisement to live in Paris)

Best Adapted Screenplay:
The Ides of March (great movie, I was engaged the whole time, Ryan Gosling is awesome. This one has promise)

Best Animated Feature:
Rango (it was the only one I saw or really even wanted to see)

Best Animated Short:
The Fantastic Flying Book of Mr. Morris Lessmore (I got the chance to see 3 of them and this one was the most impressive)

Best Documentary:
Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory (apparently this one got the West Memphis 3 released so sure)

Best Documentary - Short Subject:
The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom (I saw 4 of the 5 and I liked this one the best although Saving Face will probably win. Tough call, if you ask me)

Best Live Action Short:
Raju (I went with the one with the cool name)

Best Makeup, Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects:
Harry Potter (jus cuz)

Best Costume Design:
Hugo (the only Scorsese pick on here)

Best Sound Editing:
Drive?

Best Sound Mixing:
Harry Potter!

Now let’s see what actually gets it.
